‘Tis the season

The festive season draws near, and so does the final edition of The Frome Independent for 2021.

Sunday 5th December, 10am – 3pm

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING
Find designers, makers, craftspeople and artists offering everything from locally forged ironwork, ethical clothing, hand-blown glass baubles, jewellery, leather goods and more. Come and discover suitcases full of delights such as cards, prints, handmade candles and children’s clothing on Catherine Hill, The Bridge and Cheap Street. For one-off vintage gifts, the flea will be packed with antiques, furniture, pre-loved clothing, collectables and curiosities. Our Homes and Gardens section is a great place to seek out handmade home-wares and gifts for the plant-lover in your life.

FOOD
This Christmas we will be packed to the rafters with delicious local produce. Wander along Market Place and up Stony Street for cheeses, charcuterie, cakes, liqueurs and more. Pay a visit to Somerset Farmer’s Market at the foot of Cheap Street for produce ranging from locally reared meat and organic veg to Somerset-made sauerkraut and Chai syrup. For those going in search of lunch, head for Scott Road and the Village Green where you’ll find cuisines ranging from New York to Tibet, Sicily to Somerset – everything from delectable Dim Sum, to handmade sausage rolls.

MUSIC
Expect a quality lineup of DJs throughout the day from the Vintage Mobile Disco team, plus live music from some fantastic local bands on the Market Place Stage. For more festive merriment, look out for local choir Songbirds, who will be singing carols and Christmas favourites at various times and locations throughout the day.

CHARITY PARTNERS
Our forthcoming December market is another opportunity for The Frome Independent to work with two vitally important local charities: Fair Frome and Frome’s Big Christmas Get Together.

The Big Christmas Get Together and Fair Frome are run by a dedicated team of local volunteers who will be out in force on Sunday 5th December with collection buckets. Past December markets have generated thousands of pounds in donations from market goers, so please help us to ensure that this year is no different, and donate your spare pennies to these important local causes.

The Frome Big Christmas Get Together provides community members young and old with an opportunity to celebrate Christmas in good company and with festive cheer, while collecting a delicious hamper.

Fair Frome is a local charity delivering hands-on projects to alleviate the effects of poverty on those affected in our community. If you’d like to find out more about the vital work that Fair Frome does for our town, check out their website www.fairfrome.org

If you’re a local resident and would like to find out how you can help our with Frome’s Big Christmas Get Together, take a look at www.bigchristmasgettogether.org

Safety advice for visitors

Whilst restrictions in England are now lifted, we will still have distancing and hygiene measures in place including contactless payments and hand sanitiser stations.

We would love for all visitors to help us by:

  • Staying at home if you have symptoms, if you have been advised to self-isolate or have had contact with someone who has Covid-19.
  • Taking a free lateral flow test before you go out.
  • Respecting social distancing, especially when queuing and browsing.
  • Shopping with your eyes! Try to only handle goods you’re planning to buy.

In accordance with government guidelines we encourage visitors to wear a face covering in crowded and enclosed spaces where you come into contact with people you do not normally meet.
