Frome is the only Christmas shopping destination you’ll need this year
It’s nearly upon us – the final edition of The Frome Independent this year, and we’re going all out, cramming in even more stalls than usual throughout Frome town centre, Cheap Street, Catherine Hill, Market Yard and Justice Lane!
If you are looking for unique gifts for Christmas, look no further than our Designer Maker section. We have pretty much all bases covered, with designer-makers offering everything from jewellery, leather goods, outerwear and underwear for adults, games and outfits for children, to gifts for your home, pets and more – this cohort of artisans really are the very best in the South West.
Right in the middle of town, The Market Place Stage is the perfect place to hang out, listen to some local music and meet friends – we’ve also got not one but TWO local choirs roaming the market on Sunday 4th December – keep an eye on our social media channels for timings.
In the Market Yard, the Flea will be bursting with vintage experts and purveyors of mid-century home-wares and clothing, curios and knick-knacks. Head to Homes & Gardens for beautiful locally-sourced fresh and dried blooms, Christmas wreaths, hand-built furniture and textiles.
On the Village Green (outside the library) our resident Vintage Mobile Disco, Donna Somerset will be playing classic 7” hits throughout the day – grab a drink and hang out while the kids dance their socks off or get crafty making with Morag at Sunday Art Club. Frome Skatepark Project will also be in attendance with skate-themed merchandise, with all proceeds going to their Skatepark fundraiser.
If you’re in the mood for some local produce, pay a visit to Somerset Farmer’s Market around the Boyle Cross, or wander up Stony Street for cheeses, chocolates, smoked, fermented and pickled treats, local charcuterie and honey. Most traders will take advance orders for Christmas too so why not have a chat and see if they can supply you with all you need for the big day.
For street food lovers, we’ll have a range of cuisines traded by passionate local people throughout the market. From crumpets and wood fired pizza in the Flea, locally made Sushi, burritos, Fritto Misto and more on Scott Road – plus mulled wine and cider on the Village Green – there really is something to satisfy all urges.
With visitors full of festive cheer, December has become our biggest fundraising month – Fair Frome will be back to raise vital funds for their work supporting local people trying to bounce back from the difficulties of living with poverty. As well as running the Food and Furniture Banks, Fair Frome are working together with The Frome Christmas Get Together, to provide a free sit-down traditional Christmas meal on Christmas Day at Trinity Church Hall, The Cricket Club and The Key Centre. Please dig deep and give generously to this incredible charity!
Frome’s marvellous independent shopkeepers and cafes will be opening their doors, so you can pay a visit to this friendly bunch who will be more than happy to welcome you in from the cold.
If you’re coming from afar, we’ve even got an extra Park & Ride service in operation, from our friends at Andros UK – check out the VISIT page for more info.
With more stalls and more parking, join us for the best market of the year, yet!
