Sunshine and sand at Frome-On-Sea on Sunday 4th August

Join us beside the seaside…at Frome-On-Sea!

Frome-On-Sea is a magical day out at the beach, right in the middle of the August edition of The Frome Independent. Now in it’s 6th year, our tiny pop-up beach was born out of a desire to bring a little bit of the Great British seaside to Frome for the day! We’ll have real golden sand, seagulls, deckchairs and donkey rides, plus family activities, live music and some of the very best makers, vintage experts and food producers the South West has to offer.

Come and relax in a deckchair, build a sandcastle and meet some donkeys! We work with Danny Donkey & Pals Assisted Therapy, an organisation that looks after specially trained donkeys that visit schools, hospitals, hospices and care homes.

For music fans, the Vintage Mobile Disco will provide you with a summertime soundtrack as you feel the sand between your toes, and we’re looking forward to another great lineup from Nomad Audio Solutions on the Market Place stage, where you can see live bands playing throughout the day.

The trader lineup for August is looking great – with old favourites and new faces across all sections of the market. Come and find designers, artists and craftspeople in Market Place, offering everything from hand-forged ironwork to eco silver jewellery. Along The Bridge, St Catherine’s and Cheap Street you can find makers, startups and new businesses in our Suitcase Sale. Down in the Market Yard is the Frome Flea with antiques, vintage goodies, festival fashion and nostalgic curiosities, and our Homes & Gardens traders can be found here too. In the summer months you can find furniture, houseplants, garden sculpture and homewares.

Foodies can stock up of fresh seasonal produce from Somerset Farmers Markets, who will be in their usual place next to the Boyles Cross in Market Place with everything from locally-reared water buffalo meat to Somerset-made tofu, as well as fresh bread, pastry, cheese and cider. Our food traders on Stony Street and in market place have yet more in the way take-home food – from pies and cakes to charcuterie and sauerkraut, all made by independent producers within 30 miles of Frome.

If you’re too hungry to wait until you get home, there’s street food galore throughout the market. Find traders selling all manner of hot food, from vegan bao buns to locally reared pork sausages along Scott Road, as well as local ice cream, lashings of local beer cider and freshly-made lemonade in the Flea.

Every month our Park & Ride bus service runs throughout the day from Frome Medical Practice and Selwood School. You can park your car and hop on one of our buses which will shuttle you to the market in around 5 minutes. This is a free service but donations are gratefully received! For those of you travelling from Bristol, Bath, Wiltshire or Dorset, there are train services that will deliver you to Frome in time for the start of the market day, and take you home again when you’re done.
