TRADER PROFILE-Helen Bakunowicz aka ‘The Bakemonger’

When The Bakemonger’s application dropped into our inbox there was a collective whoop of excitement. Unlike anything we’d seen before, Helen’s creations combined cutting edge design, quality and individuality with the added bonus that they were edible!

Helen studied in Fashion Textiles Design at Brighton University. She has over 13 years experience in the design industry starting her career working as a textile designer in Como Italy and then New York City. Returning to the UK, Helen worked as a colour and trend forecaster in London. In 2014 Helen moved to Frome with her weather forecasting husband and Red Setter Dotty.

For many years Helen had baked up a storm at home, experimenting and enthusiastically feeding friends and family. In recent years these beautiful bakes and culinary delights took over her inspiration boards and baking has now become Helen’s natural creative medium. Her love of colour, textiles, art, design and culture have culminated in The Bakemonger.

Helen says “We are very proud to be established in Frome and The Frome Independent is where it all began for us back in September 2014.

As our business has grown over the months The Frome Independent remains the only market we commit to because it is truly unique. We love the festive buzz and thrive on its energy. It has been a brilliant launch pad for us and continues to be great for business. Every month we showcase our ever changing seasonal cakescape, test the waters for new ideas and flavours, meet new customers and make new contacts from far and wide. Long may the market reign.”

Featured on James Martin’s Home Comforts earlier this year, The Bakemonger was also included in British Vogue’s top 15 Instagram accounts that all food lovers should follow saying: “More like modern art installations than social media snaps, The Bakemonger’s artisan bakes are real show-stoppers to fill your feed with.”
