WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES to end domestic violence

Engaging Women would like to know if you are man enough to walk a mile in high heel shoes?

They are challenging men to grab themselves a pair of stilettos to raise awareness of the White Ribbon Campaign who are working to end male violence against women. The walk will be led by Frome’s new Mayor, Toby Eliot and will begin at the Market Place stage at 12pm and end at the pop-up village green.

Engaging Women are a group of women based in Frome who want to increase women’s contribution to public life and create a more inclusive society. Founding member and Frome Town Councillor, Kate Bielby said she had been deeply affected to learn that on average two women are killed per week as a direct result of domestic violence in the UK. She said “Of course, we know that most men are not violent towards women, but we all have a role in addressing this worrying statistic. So men of Frome, take part in this special walk to raise awareness and show your solidarity with women by literally putting yourself in their shoes!”

The Frome Independent are delighted to host the walk and have a stock of large size high heel shoes that can be hired for a £3 donation by emailing admin@thefromeindependent.org.uk and many charity shops in town are putting aside large size ladies shoes for men to purchase especially for the walk. Further details about the walk can be found on Engaging Women’s Facebook page here.
